Timothy M. Axe, D.P.M
Dr. Timothy M. Axe graduated from the University of Toledo in 1984. He studied for Masters of Education in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology at the University of Toledo Graduate School between 1984 and 1986. He then earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 1990 from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the Highest Proficiency in Scholarship Award. Dr. Axe is Board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
Dr. Axe served a postgraduate fellowship in diabetic foot and ankle care under Dr. John F. Grady. He then served a residency in foot and ankle surgery at the Westside Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chicago, where he also served as Chief Podiatric Surgical Resident.
Actively involved in education, Dr. Axe is the Assistant Director of the Podiatric Surgical Residency Program at the Department of Veterans Affairs Chicago Health Care System - Westside Division in Chicago. He has served on the faculty at several national seminars, as well as, training programs in foot and ankle arthroscopy and foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. Dr. Axe has published articles in several medical journals, and he has lectured both locally and nationally to physician groups and community groups.
Dr. Axe has a special interest in foot and ankle care of patients with Diabetes Mellitus, as well as, wound care. He has served as an associate investigator in a nationwide multicenter research study for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcerations. In addition, he has presented lectures at several national seminars on wound care and treatment of the diabetic foot and ankle.
Dr. Axe is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, and the American Diabetes Association - Council on Foot Care. He is affiliated with Ingalls Memorial Hospital, Magna Surgical Center, and the DVA Chicago Healthcare System - Westside Division.
