Tara L. Sakevich, D.P.M

Dr. Tara Sakevich attained a bachelor’s of science degree in biology and psychology from Syracuse University in New York where she graduated Cum Laude.  She then continued her education at Chicago’s Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine where she earned a doctor of podiatric medicine degree graduating Magna Cum Laude.  She had the honor of being included in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”

            She completed a three-year residency program in podiatric medicine and advanced foot and ankle surgery at the Veterans Administration Chicago Healthcare System, where she also served as the chief resident in podiatric surgery.  During her residency she trained and taught in numerous European locations with some of the most well known orthopedic and trauma surgeons in the world.  Her experiences lead to be involved with the newest methods of surgical techniques. 

            Dr. Sakevich is actively involved in education.  She serves as a clinical and surgical instructor at Veterans Adminstration Chicago Healthcare System training surgical residents.  She also lectures, trains and instructs wound care nurses and physicians in their continuing education.  Her commitment to education involves attending seminars for physicians as both a participant and lecturer in the US as well as abroad.  She has instructed surgeons in cadaveric workshops on reconstructive surgical techniques as well as limb salvage techniques.

            Both academics and research are of interest to Dr. Sakevich.  She has received the national Post-Graduate Resident’s Research Symposium Gold Award  in foot and ankle surgery for her studies on diabetic foot salvage techniques.  She has also been published in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association.

            Dr. Sakevich is a wound care specialist proficient in diabetic wound care, lower extremity sport injuries, reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, bio-engineered skin grafting, limb salvage, arthroscopy, trauma and fracture management, ankle fusion, surgical laser techniques, charcot reconstruction, implant surgery techniques, and absorbable fixation devices.

            She is on the surgical staff of Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center, Little Company of Mary Hospital, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, Veterans Administration Chicago Healthcare System, Jesse-Brown division.  She is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, and  The American Academy of Wound Care Specialists.

            Dr. Sakevich has lived in  Chicago for seven years and is very active in the community.  She has participated in the Chicago Marathon, the Chicago ½ Marathon, and the Ms. T’s Triathalon.  She enjoys outdoor sports as well as traveling.
